between Migrants and Local Turkish Communities, Fostering Integration International Organization for Migration UN Migration Agency Regrets Loss of Life in Tragic Road Accident in Tanzania IOM, the United Nations Migration Agency, moved swiftly to assist victims of a tragic road accident in Tanzania that occurred Thursday (29/03) around 16:30 local time, and took the lives of eight people—including one IOM team member, six refugees and one Tanzanian citizen, who was working alongside the roadway.
Jamal Mohamud, an IOM employee acting as emergency coordinator at the site, said on Friday (30/03), "the accident happened during the transport of 515 Burundians undertaking voluntary return in a convoy of eight buses chartered by IOM."
It is specifically designed to allow the voices of individuals to shine through and provide first-hand insight into the triumphs and challenges of migrants of all backgrounds and at all phases of their migratory journeys. IOM seeks to combat xenophobia and discrimination by appealing to both the head and hearts at a time when so many are exposed to a negative narrative about migration – whether on our social media feeds or on the airwaves. Thus far, IAAM includes 1,200 profiles from across the globe.

As we enter 2018, we should remember all those who lost their lives not because they lost the will to live, but because of the deadly cloud of conflict, intolerance, and disregard for human life and endeavor.

“Before going through the training programme, I knew nothing about tailoring. I had to learn everything from the ground up. It took me seven months to learn everything but I managed to do it,” Aluel Matiok said. She participated in the tailoring and business skills training run by IOM and now shares a workshop with 13 tailors who produce and sell clothing through a cooperative agreement. Using fabric donated by IOM to help the tailors get their business off the ground, they have produced a number of garments for men and women of various sizes.

We are pleased to announce that the International Migration Law Unit of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in cooperation with the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL) will conduct its thirteenth International Migration Law Course from 25 to 29 September 2017, in Sanremo, Italy.
The five-day basic Course on International Migration Law (IML) is designed for government officials, academia, representatives of international and non-governmental organizations, as well as members of the civil society. It will focus on the international legal framework governing migration, including the rights and responsibilities of States and migrants.
Persons wishing to apply for participation in this Course are kindly requested to complete the application form. The application forms must be submitted in English to the International Organization for Migration (see contact details in the application form), to the attention of the International Migration Law Unit (IML) no later than 15 July 2017.

IOM Philippines
In 1988, the Philippines became an IOM Member State - among the first Member States in Asia, with Manila as one of the first regional IOM offices in late 1996.
In 2003, the Global Administrative Centre was established in Manila (now known as the Manila Administrative Centre or Mac), and provides global support in the areas of finance, human resources management, information technology, staff security, project tracking, and health claims processing, among others.

Sarajevo — IOM, the United Nations Migration Agency, is responding to increased numbers of migrants crossing into Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The latest arrivals originate mostly from North Africa, through Greece, Albania, and neighboring Montenegro.

“This has put the capacity of the relevant authorities and national aid agencies such as the Red Cross under strain,” said Peter Van der Auweraert, IOM’s sub-coordinator for the Western Balkans. “In line with our mandate as the UN Migration Agency, we’ve been helping the Red Cross in Trebinje to provide on-arrival support to migrants through the purchase of food, hygienic products and clothing.”
Dar es Salaam — IOM, the United Nations Migration Agency, moved swiftly to assist victims of a tragic road accident in Tanzania that occurred Thursday (29/03) around 16:30 local time, and took the lives of eight people—including one IOM team member, six refugees and one Tanzanian citizen, who was working alongside the roadway. Support to victims of the accident is being provided by the Government of Tanzania, as well as, the UN, including IOM, the UN Migration Agency, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and the World Food Programme (WFP).
